Race Report on Island Sailing Clubs Inshore series Christchurch Bay Race
Sat 14th May
Seventeen yachts turned out for the first race of the Inshore series 8 in the IRC class and 9 in the ISCRS class
With a forecast of very light winds all day the start was postponed for one hour and it was decided that it was not practical to send the fleets past Hurst Castle into Christchurch Bay so a rounding mark just to the east of the Hurst spit was chosen. The IRC class had a good start and with the tide under them the leaders rounded the first mark at 12.40. The return leg was a lot slower as they had to contend with adverse Spring tides and variable winds. On reaching Cowes the winds became particularly light and variable but the tide was now with them. Whooper IRC class crossed the line first at 4.20 but was beaten on corrected time by RIOT sailed by Greig City Academy. All of the IRC yachts finished but only 4 of the ISCRS class managed to finish before the time limit expired.
