Save the ISC Pontoon Bridge

A bird without a song is as sad as a Sailing Club without access to the water; and this fate is now facing the Island Sailing Club.
The Clubs pontoon is one of our major assets allowing members to moor their boats, to catch a launch to a mooring, to hire and use the Clubs Sonars or to park a RIB. A recent inspection of the bridge to our Pontoon has underlined our worst fears as these two photos show. It is may be possible to patch and repair the worst of this damage, but this will be a short term and still costly solution with the problem soon returning elsewhere within the bridge.
The rest of the bridge is far from perfect and being more than 20 years old it is unreasonable to expect it to last for much longer. The cost of constructing and installing a new bridge to last the Club into the future is in the region of £30,000. This is a large sum of money, but without access to the water we believe the Club would be massively compromised.
Unfortunately, as you may know, the Club does not presently have such a significant capital sum.
At Januarys General Committee, therefore, it was agreed that we launch a Pontoon Bridge Replacement Fund to raising the necessary funds. We can completely renew this bridge if EVERY member donates £30 to this fund. If you feel able to donate more, that would be tremendous, and we will produce a roll of honour to be mounted on the bridge or in the Club for those who give £200 or more. (Anonymity will be offered if preferred.)
The more people able to pay in excess of £30 will compensate for those who feel unable to contribute.
For Bank Transfers the details of the special account are as follows:
- Account Name: ISC Pontoon Restoration Fund
- Sort Code: 30-95-99
- Account: 01337758
- Reference: Your surname and if possible membership number
Cheques will be gratefully received at the office made out to Pontoon Restoration Fund.
Time is not on our side and so please, don't delay. Thank you in advance for your continued support of the Club.
