ROUND THE ISLAND RACE 2004
|
We invite you to enter the 68th Island Sailing Club's Round the Island Race on 26th June 2004.
The online facility for entry is www.roundtheisland.org.uk .
This year we are delighted to welcome the following nine race partners to our sponsorship family - BT openworld, Champagne Mumm, Haven Knox-Johnston, International Coatings, Lombard, MDL, Pindar, Raymarine and Red Funnel. Once again we look forward to sharing with them the unique experience of one of the largest yacht races in the world.
We are pleased to introduce for the first time a new prize within the overall ISC Handicap classes. Arun Yacht Club have issued a challenge to other clubs or associations affiliated to a Member National Authority to compete with a three boat team to race for the ARUN YACHT CLUB TEAM CHALLENGE TROPHY. The winning team will be the three boats with the lowest aggregate corrected time. This complements the IRC Interclub Team Challenge event.
2004: Some Important Points to Note
The competitors last year enjoyed a textbook type of race, although no records were broken. Current records set in 2001 are:-
° Multihulls: Dexia Eure et Loir (D R A Webb) -3hrs 8min 29sec (15.92 knots)° Monohull: Skandia Life Leopard (Mike Slade) - 4hrs 5min 40sec (12.21 knots) ·
Winner of the Gold Roman Challenge Bowl for the second year running was Rosina of Beaulieu (Jeremy Rogers, MBE)
A list of entrants will be posted on the website, as last year, and will not be mailed. · If you win a trophy and you or your representative are unable to attend the prizegiving on Sunday 27th June, please advise the ISC office (01983 296621).
Please be sure to read carefully the Notice of Race that follows before you complete the entry form. As a result of a recent ISAF decision, there is no difference in fees this year for Category C entries. The basic entry fee has had to be increased to compensate.
The Island Sailing Club is committed to all the safety aspects of running a race of this magnitude and asks all competitors to observe the rules of racing, good practice and seamanship while taking part in this race. Please make sure you complete the 'Shorewatch' box on the entry form. This contact number should have details of the boat and crew for emergency use if necessary.
In this my last year as Commodore I have once again nominated the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) as the official charity, a charity that is dedicated to enabling physically handicapped and able bodied people to share in the challenges of crewing a tall ship at sea. Both the Lord Nelson and the Tenacious require considerable financial support and all of your added donations to the entry fee will be presented to the JST during the prizegiving on Sunday after the race. Please give generously to such a good cause.
May we wish you an enjoyable and safe day's racing and thank you for your support to this great event.
Good luck and good sailing.
PETER HEDLEY
