Winter Programme of talks.  Unless otherwise stated, all talks are on Tuesdays with supper available from 1830 to 1930 and talks begin at 2000.

Every Monday from September 2017
The Bridge Club meet at 1315

Tuesday 23 January
Burns Night Hatch Supper.  Ross Doig will address the haggis at 7pm.  The Hatch Supper will start from approximately 7.15pm and Jackie Hayes will talk after supper.

St Helena - Secret of the South Atlantic - Rosemary Stewart.  A voyage with the Royal Mail Ship from Cape Town to this unique and dramatic volcanic island with its famous history, special plants and friendly people.

Boat Building Around the World - Dr Colin Palmer.  Around the world, traditional boats are built without lines planes, using skills and traditions handed down over the generations.  The way we build in the west, starting with a skeleton of frames and wrapping them in planks is the exception.  The great majority of boat builders start with the planks and put the frames in afterwards.  The ways they do this vary greatly from place to place, resulting in a remarkable array of different boat shapes and traditions.  This talk will whisk you around the world, comparing and contrasting the different approaches and end by throwing light on the evolution of boatbuilding in Europe.
