Vessel Name: AVENTUREA Location: SCOTLAND

Friday 7th May 2010,

Took Aventurea over after inspection and sea trial and left Coleraine for Portrush. The entrance here can be very dangerous over the bar, even in N3/4 the waves were high and starting to break, altering course for Portrush with wind and waves on the port bow sent lots of heavy spray over the wheelhouse, almost as bad as 'Starlet' our previous Nelson!

The passage enabled us to try out some of the boat's systems which were new to us. All instruments 'talk' to each other and sometimes it seems they don't listen carefully enough! We entered Portrush and tied to the pontoon against the wall. Judy and I were both very pleased with the boat and she can use her 18 knot cruising speed into a force four

Sat 8th May
After a very cold night we fuelled the boat, paid the mooring fee of £15 and left for the wisky island of Islay 2 1/2 hrs later entered Port Ellen on the S/E corner of Islay after a trouble free passage of 32 miles

A group of 'hooray henries' on a nearby boat said we shouldn't eat ashore at the same time as them, so we had a good meal on the boat before settling down to another very cold night.

David Morgan - April 4th 2010

From Wednesday this week Judy and I shall be sailing our new boat 'Aventurea'  {a Hardy Mariner 26) from N. Ireland to the Western Isles of Scotland, over a period of two weeks, before having her transported down to the Solent. If we can get online we shall keep you informed.

Vessel Name: COUNTER GIRL Location: CORFU
Malcolm & Gill Bishop - April 4th 2010

We were so lucky! The flight ban was lifted late Tuesday 20 April and we flew to Brindisi  on Thursday 22 no problems!
Counter Girl was well chocked up ashore and we lived on her for 3 days whilst we put her back together ready to launch Monday 26. Tuesday 27 we left early to sail 44 miles to Otranto - a rather long shakedown sail but all went well. Next day victualling and exploring the old city.
We tried to leave Thursday 29 but it was cold, cloudy, windy and the sea was really uncomfy. The wind went on the nose and when the engine played up as well we turned back. We sorted the problem and filled up with diesel 1.28euros/litre.
Friday 30 - what a difference a day makes! - sea calmer, wind now NW , sunny so we left for Othoni an island off N Corfu 47 miles. A good trip and we saw a whale as we neared the island. We anchored for the night in the pretty little harbour well sheltered from the NW.
Saturday 1 May was sunny and warm with light wind as Poseidon (Greece weather) had forecast. We motorsailed to Gouvia marina Corfu 36m. The engine behaved impeccably both days but neither of us dared mention it until we got here! Gouvia full of Charter fleets that leave tomorrow Monday whilst we bus to Corfu Town to get our papers.

ISC WEB SITE -CRUISING LOG BOOK
Thanks to Chris Thomas we now have a cruising log book section in the Cruising part of the ISC web site. This follows a request from " Blue Water" cruising members for a facility for them to use to communicate with other members, particularly whilst in foreign ports. Any messages for the log book should be sent to Chris Thomas ( E mail: chris@islandsc.org.uk ) who after any necessary adjustments, will post them on the web site.
