DAME ELLEN MACARTHUR

On 25th February 2005, Dame Ellen MacArthur returned to the Isle of Wight for the first time after her amazing and triumphant solo circumnavigation on board B&Q/Castorama.
Crowds of schoolchildren afloat cheered and shouted as the impressive trimaran cruised past Cowes Green and the waterfront.

After receiving the Freedom of the Isle of Wight on The Parade in front of a huge crowd, Dame Ellen arrived at the Island Sailing Club to receive Honorary Life Membership, together with a gold 'Castle' stick pin, from Commodore Peter Dickson.
After a patient series of media interviews, she left from the Club pontoon by RIB to another reception at Venture Quays in East Cowes, the home of Offshore Challenges.
